LA Festival of Books

No, I didn't hitch a ride down to Mexico to check out the rodeo...instead, I went to the LA Festival of Books and had a blast:) I learned SO much. If anybody wants a copy of my notes for any of the seminars below, just give me a holler here and I'll email them to ya:) Here's my picks from the Festival. The books I bought are:

"And My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You" by Kathi Kamen Goldmark, founder of the Rock Bottom Remainders--the author rock band that has Stephen King and Dave Barry as members:)

"Black Juice" by Margo Lanagan--one of my fave authors of the Festival, an Australian author. Her story "Singing My Sister Down" is hands down the eeriest short story I've EVER read.

"Inkheart" by Cornelia Funke--optioned for a movie due out in 2009? Cornelia has written 40 books. "Inkspell" is her latest.

"The Girl in the Flammable Skirt" by Aimee Bender--The first story is about her de-evolving boyfriend.

"Break Any Woman Down" by Dana Johnson

"Plane Insanity" by Elliott Hester--a guy who sold is car got out of his leased apt. in Chicago quit his job as a flight attendant and has been flying around the world for the last 3 years. Just amazing.

"Travel Writing" by Don George

Here's a list of the notes I have available to send you guys if you want:

"She said, She said" a seminar on writing female characters with Kathi Kamen Goldmark, Susan Isaacs and Paul Mandelbaum
"Young Adult Fiction : Rites of Initiation" with John Green, Per Nilsson, Andreas Steinbofel, Markus Zusak
"Creating New Worlds: Young Adult Fantasy Writing" with Cornelia Funke, Adam Gopnik, Margo Lanagan
"Fiction: Building A World" with Chris Abani, Emily Barton, Judith Freeman
"To the Point: Short Stories" with Gary Amdahl, Aimee Bender, Dana Johnson, Eric Puchner
"Carl Reiner's Conversation with Patt Morrison"
Around the World in 60 Minutes: Travel Writing"

On my wish list is Carl Reiner's new book "Nnnnn" and I'd like the latest from Markus Zusak too, another Aussie!

Hope you all had an inspiring weekend, and for all my writer friends out there, hope you enjoy the picks and HAPPY WRITING!! Oh, so great to catch up with you Laura V, AND nice to meet you Megan!
