A little Inspiration to start 2011

Hope the New Year finds you happy, healthy and ready to write! Spent a fabulous holiday with family and friends [which graced me with all kinds of material, including the part where I thought I'd landed in a Stephen King novel, EEk!]. Had a typical California Christmas played on the beach in Carmel then went to Lake Tahoe to play in the snow.

Here's one conversation I heard while we ate pizza in Tahoe that totally cracked me up:

"I bite everything. Wood. Plastic. Pencils. Paper. I just can't help myself. And the other day? I bit my cousin's arm." [didn't see the guy, but think thirty-ish man with a bit of a hint of a southern accent]

Hilarious.

Here's an email I received from a dear friend today, a quote from Ray Bradbury. I found it inspirational and so I thought I'd share it with you:

How long has it been since you wrote a story where your real love or real hatred somehow got onto the paper? When was the last time you dared release a cherished prejudice so it slammed the page like a lightning bolt? What are the best things or worst things in your life and when are you going to get around to whispering or shouting them?

Be certain of this: When honest love speaks, when true admiration begins, when excitement rises, when hate curls like smoke, you need never doubt that creativity will stay with you for a lifetime.

In order to convince your reader that he is there, you must assault each of his senses, in turn, with color, sound, taste and texture. If your reader feels the sun on his flesh, the wind fluttering his shirt sleeves, half your fight is won.
